    Hello Michael,
thank you for the detailed description of the issue you are facing. Let me explain the reason for the reported behavior in a wider context and then suggest a solution to it. As of October 2018, CloverETL is newly called CloverDX so all our products released after this change carry the new brand "CloverDX" (if you’re interested in why we’ve rebranded or in details about the transition, feel free to visit this website.) Together with this change, we have also designed our CloverDX Designer to use a newer version of Eclipse as its basic cornerstone. This means that if a user wants to install CloverDX Designer 5.0.0 he/she needs to install this newer Eclipse version. If the user downloads 5.0.0 Designer from our website there should be no issues because the bundled installation package already contains it. However, if the user upgrades by using the update site (Help > Check for updates) the upgrade process should be prevented from happening, however, not particularly in the way you described. I am now working with our development team on the resolution to this issue so that it handled properly in the future. I am sorry for the inconvenience caused.
Anyway, to resolve the issue on your end, kindly perform the following steps:

    • Backup all the directories from your current workspace by copying the whole directory content to a new previously unused directory.

    • Uninstall both the current CloverETL Designer 4.6.0M2 and/or the new CloverDX Designer 5.0.0 (either by navigating to Start menu > All programs > CloverETL Designer 4.X or CloverDX Designer 5.0.0 > Uninstall or by navigating to your Control Panel > Uninstall a program).

    • Navigate to the original installation directory (typically C:\Program Files) to review whether the uninstallation was complete and no CloverETL or CloverDX related directory or files remained. If they did, please delete them. Note: worth checking might be also the ‘C:\Program Files (x86)’ directory for the same matter.

    • Delete the current workspace.

    • Navigate to our website and download the CloverDX Designer 5.0.0 installation package. Make sure to choose the installation package for the respective OS (Windows) and adequate bit architecture (for example, if you are using 64 bit Windows 10, make sure to select the ‘Windows 64-bit’ platform on our website.

    • Install the package after it is downloaded.

    • After the installation is finished you should be good to open CloverETL Designer and select a new workspace.

    • If all works well, please copy the backed up directories into the new workspace. However, do NOT copy the '.metadata', '.recommenders' and 'RemoteSystemsTempFiles' directories.

    Best regards,
    Vladi
