Note: This announcement does not affect any version of CloverDX Server older than 5.17.x (i.e., every release with version number 5.16.x or lower). These versions will be supported as per CloverDX support policy in line with each version’s planned 2-year product life cycle.
Starting with CloverDX version 5.17 (with expected GA on 13th December 2022), CloverDX Server will no longer support deployment on following platforms:
- Oracle WebLogic Server 12
- Red Hat JBoss EAP 7.2
- IBM WebSphere 9
We encourage customers with CloverDX Server deployed on either of these platforms to move to a different platform as soon as possible to avoid any issues in the future. Brief recommendations are outlined below in What should I do? section.
The support matrix for CloverDX Server 5.17 will look like this:
Why do we plan to discontinue deployment support for these application servers?
We are committed to provide our customers with secure environment and improving CloverDX product line with features everyone can benefit from. This comes hand in hand with using benefits of ecosystem which evolves over time and sometimes outpaces external dependencies we can no longer support in order to fulfill this commitment.
In other words, we occasionally need to discontinue support for older databases, runtime platforms and drop features which use dependencies no longer maintained to allow us to stay current with the technology and provide the most reliable and secure product possible.
What should I do?
Following recommendation only applies if you plan to upgrade to CloverDX 5.17 or newer and if you are using Oracle WebLogic, Red Hat JBoss EAP or IBM WebSphere 9. If you plan to remain on CloverDX 5.16.x or older, you will still be supported on all of these platforms until June 2024 when 5.16 line is scheduled to be EOL in accordance to current support policy and release lifecycle.

…when running Red Hat JBoss EAP
To keep Red Hat as supported vendor, we recently added support for Red Hat JBoss Web Server. It belongs to Red Hat commercial stack along with Red Hat build of OpenJDK which will give you similar level of support as your existing JBoss EAP.
…when running IBM WebSphere 9
Open Liberty (or commercial WebSphere Liberty) is next generation of IBM’s application server currently on list of supported platforms. For now, the only supported option for Open Liberty is IBM Semeru 8. However, we will be adding support for IBM Semeru 11 within next few months. If you plan to stay in IBM ecosystem, this may be a viable option.
…when running Oracle WebLogic
As vendor, Oracle does not have a direct replacement. To stay with commercial stack, best option would be going with Red Hat JBoss Web Server + Red Hat build of JDK or VMware tc Server + Bellsoft Liberica JDK (both have commercial support from VMware).
If you are considering switching to a different platform, you can also switch to an open-source stack – Apache Tomcat 9 paired with Eclipse Temurin JDK 11. This is the most used CloverDX deployment.
To see requirements for each application server, please consult our documentation – System requirements section.
